B805 (Stirling)

Post by Steven »

Whilst taking a look at 7th series Sheet 54 Revision A (thanks Nicholas!), I noticed that part of the modern B8051 at Stirling is labelled as B805; whilst the defunct northern part is labelled as B8051. So, I looked at SABRE Maps at the A/ revision on there, and the labelling is the same.

Now, the Wiki knows all about two versions of the B805 - one in the east end of Glasgow that was renumbered circa 1935, and the present one near Falkirk that came into being at some point in the 1970s. Is this Stirling variant that seemingly exists in the 1960s a mapping error, or did it really exist?

SABRE Maps also has the A//* revision of Sheet 54 from 1971, and that clearly shows both halves of the road labelled as B8051, putting a definite end date to any existence.

Looking very closely at the map, the "B805" label might be missing a "1" hidden behind the black line on the edge of Drummond Place Lane. The font is in red, but I am seeing what looks like a very slight bit of red along the edge of the black line which could very well be the "1". The B8051 in Stirling has existed since about 1932, so it seems likely that there was either a mapping error or a badly placed "1" during the 1960s.

Plus, the 1951 6" map has it labelled B8051, as does the 1967 25" map.
