B4489
Does the B4489 go north of the M4. The latest OS Landranger maps show the B4489 both north and south of the M4 (junction 46) but all other maps and atlases show the B4489 going north from the centre of Swansea but ending at the M4 (junction 46). Only OS maps show the B4489 going north from junction 46 of the M4 and ending at the roundabout next to the Park and Ride. Also the OS maps show no westbound access onto the M4 at junction 46 which I believe to be incorrect. I thought it was worth asking these questions to see if anyone had the correct answers.
Re: B4489
The omission of the slip from the Llangyfelach roundabout to the westbound M4 is certainly an error.
As for the B4489 north of the M4, the number is not shown on signage, but every official document that I have seen mentioning the road in this area indicates its being numbered B4489 at least as far north as 51.68805,-3.96770 (grid ref. SN640006), the junction with the private road leading to the Swansea North electricity sub-station. This point is, in fact, some 590 metres further north than the entrance to the Park and Share site currently indicated on OS maps as being the northern terminus of the route.

Re: B4489
Thanks for the information on the B4489. I'm guessing that the reclassification of the road north of the M4 (junction 46) to the B4489 must have happened fairly recently as very few maps and atlases (except Ordnance Survey) show the road north of the M4 as being the B4489. As you mentioned the OS maps show the B4489 ending at the Park and Ride but it actually continues slightly further north so I checked on Google Maps and it is shown as the B4489 all the way up to the right turn for the no through road to Gellyfeddan (half of a mile south of Felindre) which is past the entrance to the Swansea North Sub Station. This could be an error but I still can't be sure for certain where the B4489 terminates

Re: B4489
Does anyone know exactly where the B4489 road north of the M4 stops and becomes an unclassified road
Re: B4489
According to the OS mapping on a little-known website called SABRE Maps, the B4489 ends at the second roundabout north of the M4, the one that provides access to the park & ride.roadphotos wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 00:26 Does anyone know exactly where the B4489 road north of the M4 stops and becomes an unclassified road

Re: B4489
The latest most up to date OS maps now show the westbound access to the M4 at junction 46. It looks like they have noticed the error on previous editions that incorrectly showed no slip road onto the westbound M4 at junction 46. As for the B4489 it's still a bit of a mystery as the OS map and Google Maps (if that counts) are the only ones that shows this 'B Road' north of the M4 and they must have got this information from somewhere.
Re: B4489
I joined the motorway at J46 a few weeks back. I saw no evidence of the B4489 being used on signs heading north of the M4. That is not conclusive evidence though.roadphotos wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 09:54 The latest most up to date OS maps now show the westbound access to the M4 at junction 46. EDIT: This map of adopted roads in Swansea shows the link north of the motorway as B4489, but I don't think we can take that as conclusive evidence either as the label appears on the OS base map rather than on the Council's layer.

This notice shows the B4489 number extending northwards to this junction.
