A6033 Speed Limits Amended

Post by FleetlinePhil »

A trip over to Rochdale to get a spare key fob made proved a surprise today. The former 50 mph limit between Lane Bottom and Summit has been discontinued sometime during lockdown, with the 40 mph limit applying throughout this stretch. Actually, it's not even that - the 30 mph limit through Walsden now applies right through Lane Bottom to the very end of the housing, at the point the 40 used to change to 50. The pelican crossing also appears to have been rebuilt, I suspect it has been moved a little nearer the housing.

As they were specifically mentioned, I have edited the A6033 Wiki page to reflect the changes to the speed limits.

It doesn't surprise me, there were concerns about that length ten years ago. A fatal collision by the old Bird i'th'Hand triggered a wave of campaigns so I suspect this is a follow-up from that.

Indeed, although it does seem ironic it has only happened long after the pub has shut. It used to be at least an annual visit for a quiz league match (with a designated driver of course), and the exit from the car park towards Todmorden could be extremely hairy.

At least I'm not driving it daily to and from work any more. At 0530, it was quite common for me to be overtaken when sticking close to the 50 mph limit. You soon get used to the regular drivers at that time of day  .
