B1106 rerouted

Post by roadphotos »

The B1106 has changed it's route at Fornham All Saints near Bury St Edmunds. From its start at the A14 it now goes via a new housing development (Marham Park) and meets the A1101 further east than it used to. The Wiki will probably need updating. The old road running south from the double mini roundabouts on the A1101 at Fornham All Saints is now an unclassified minor road.

That's made a bit more of a mess of the numbering in the area, as it's created a detatched setion of the B1106 that doesn't now link to the rest of it... This could presumably have been used as an opportunity to resolve some of the numbering confusion... but, well, it wasn't...!

I wonder if restrictions will eventually be placed on the road as there is no incentive for traffic remaining on the B1106 to use the new road.
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?

The east-west route surely just needs a different number now, doesn't it? Much as I like the roundabout where all four arms have the same number, B1106 is not in any way a coherent number for a single route.

Looks like they finally got round to doing so. While this is perfectly sensible given the realignment, they should have thought more about this when they built the new road - people are not automatically going to switch to a new route that's almost twice as long, has three extra roundabouts and only a 40mph limit versus a mix of 40 and 30.
