Ped crossing markings in Spain

Post by James »

I saw a while ago the DGT in Spain were trialing out markings to improve visibility the pedestrian crossings

They seem to be rolling this out, as I've seen them re-marking lots of markings in the N351 in La Linea

They are to say, very UK inspired!

What does - the white zig-zags or the pot-holed parking bays?

Haha! The zig-zags (I will try to get a better picture next time I'm on foot through there!)

Knew the Spanky pankies would one day recognise the superior nation between us and submit to our superiority over the European guffin boffin. *laugh-grumbles in posh*

On a serious note, I've noticed Spanish road markings & signage tend to be quite similar to British ones, e.g. using Transport, their give way lines aren't too far removed from those used on the British mainland. Hopefully zig zags might encourage the Spanish to be more courteous at zebra crossings to the delight of the British & German tourist.

Do they have the same controlled zone meaning or are they simply decorative?

I found a Spanish government post about these 'líneas quebradas'.

It seems they are only optional warning markings and need to be significantly longer than the British counterparts. 14 zigs and zags compared to 2 minimum in UK etc.
