Which is why they are switching to directional LED lights.

So, I discovered something I haven't seen before, just outside of Atlanta, GA - A British Bridge

A single bridge where cars switch sides. I'm not entirely sure why, but I'm sure there's a good reason.

It's a Diverging Diamond interchange. They're currently fashionable in the USA at locations like this. More here

So, something I'm not sure I've seen before - Question marks on road signs. I mean, maybe i have in some circumstances, but not in mere directional road signs.

Like here, in Maryland...

Bay Bridge Bound?

Are there other examples of Choose Your own Adventure style road signs?

Some states (including Maryland, I think) favor "Lights?" at tunnel exits. And I think Maryland has other (custom) sign messages with the question mark.

Hawai'i also uses " Lights ? " sign at tunnel exits. Australia uses "Check your headlights".

Spain uses a picture of a headlight (similar to the typical dashboard light symbol) followed by a question mark.

See this is why I don't enjoy American signs... too informal.

"For Bay Bridge use US-50" would be much more informative without sounding like it wants to join you for lunch.

US signage reminds me of a bygone era. It's so traditional in it's terminology.

Americans are also completely lost if there is no yellow line to distinguish direction of travel/one way (lack of line) systems as I found out when my wife moved to the UK

Not sure whether to post in this thread or start a new one, but has anyone ever done strip maps of the US Interstates? Struggling to find any, and a thought I've had a few times.

Common in quite a few US states, and I think Canadian provinces as well. But only on far-side mast arm signals. Pole mounted signals are vertical.
IIRC, quite common (perhaps almost the norm) in a few Asian countries.

America just loves a spontaneos Interstate, but this is how you know an Interstate has ended, when you get a nice At-Grade junction...

I usually see a yellow "Freeway Ends" or "Expressway Ends" sign.

The eastern end of I-565 here in Huntsville is similar, though it is signed with just an End I-565 shield:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.7633968 ... 384!8i8192
And then an End Controlled Access Highway a bit further up:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.7645283 ... 384!8i8192
There used to be an I-565 shield on the westbound side marking the start of the interstate for westbound traffic, though that disappeared a good few years ago when that side got widened and ALDOT has never bothered to replace it.

The western end of I-565 has a bit more fanfare though, as the End I-565 shield and "end controlled access highway" signs are combined into one larger sign:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.6280325 ... 384!8i8192
And of course, the one on the other side for eastbound traffic, marking the start of I-565:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.6278766 ... 384!8i8192
Believe both of those signs are original to I-565 being built, as they're non-reflective with demountable reflective copy (and shields) on them and look quite aged.

The freeway section of Memorial Parkway ends with very little fanfare though.
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.7683838 ... 384!8i8192
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.6414477 ... 384!8i8192

Research Park Boulevard (AL 255)'s southern end is also similarly undramatic, only a 0 milepost just south of the interchange with I-565:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.7010412 ... 384!8i8192
This used to lead right up to Redstone Arsenal's main entrance though, and still technically does, though Gate 9 is a good bit further south along Rideout Road now. The beacons above those speed limit signs have long been abandoned in place.
Truvelo wrote: Tue Apr 04, 2023 20:58 I usually see a yellow "Freeway Ends" or "Expressway Ends" sign.
Don't think I've seen those here in Alabama, so it may be a regional thing. Believe the closest we have is this ALL TRAFFIC MUST EXIT 3/4 MILE sign a bit before the north end of Research Park Boulevard (AL 255)'s freeway:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.7876316 ... 384!8i8192

There was also these yellow Controlled Access Ends 1/2 Mile signs at the west end of I-565, but they've since disappeared and, last I saw, ALDOT still had yet to replace them:

Probably busy documenting grade crossings in the southeastern United States.

Most of the ones I've seen are in the northeast of the country. This was on US 35 in West Virginia where it went down to a two lane road. It has since been replaced by a divided highway so the freeway ends sign is no more. However, it's a bit of a misnomer as the freeway section contains at-grade junctions so it really isn't access controlled.
