Blue Square Signs on Spanish Roads

Post by A303Chris »

I'm currently watching la Veulta and regularly see blue square signs along the side of roads saying either 40, 50 or 60. What do they represent as there are speed limit signs.

My assumption is they are distance markers saying how many metres there are to a bend etc similar to our yardage markers, but if anyone knows I would be interested to know.

Bryn tank you for the quick reply. A maximum advisory speed that's a new one. I suppose if you have an accident and are found to be going faster than the advisory limit, it could put you in a bit of stick with the insurance company, although when I've been to spain and the number of dents in cars, I have started to believe that insurance is an optional extra

Functionally they are identical to our "Max Speed 50" signs used with warning signs.

I've never once seen them in France as I always thought they preferred mandatory speed limits at hazards. Yet this sign has been around since the 80s. Is it a Departmental thing?

Could be, I've only ever seen them in the Pyrénées-Orientales and the Aude.
