You could argue they have a limit of 186,000 miles per second! :stir: :coat:
and also that the road itself is rotating about the Earth's axis at around 700 mph and that the Earth is moving around the Sun at 18 miles per second :D

and the entire solar system is orbiting the galactic centre at 514,000 mph

and the galaxy is whizzing towards the Andromeda Galaxy

and the entire universe is expanding

Oh I forgot to point out that every vehicle on every road in Europe is moving east a few centimetres per year!

Even those that are driving in a different direction? :)

If you're talking about plate tectonics then many vehicles in Iceland are moving steadily westwards.

Of course, although other motions may exist at the same time giving a net motion in another direction.

Or we could measure relative to the Greenwich Meridian in which case there is not plate tectonic movement in Europe and the mid-Atlantic Ridge is moving despite being the source of the movement!

Are we off-topic enough yet?!

Several sections of autoroute in Austria were electronically signed at 160kph at one point, off peak, they may still be, 2012 was the last time I was there.
How about some more beans Mr. Taggart?

... but once you take relativity into account, you have a limit of 299792.458 km/s regardless of any other movements. If you don't believe me, ask Mr Einstein. :stir:

Maybe I'm wrong... but I recall the autobahn from Groningen (in NL) to Bremen was 140 once cross the border?

I'll check next time :p
That bit is mostly derestricted IIRC with 120 around major junctions.

I found this article about a trial 140km/h limit. Strange its time limited as it is. You can't go full speed during most of the night!

About half of them - the other half are moving eastwards.

WhenI visited Iceland several years ago, the tour group were taken to a site where an upside-down U-bar had been embedded in the ground, each leg in a different tectronic plate. The bar had been cut and the gap between the two halves grew as the tectronic plates moved away from each other.

c2R wrote: Fri Sep 27, 2019 17:37 Wikipedia says this about Italy:
Italy's autostrade have a standard speed limit of 130 km/h (81 mph) for cars. Limits for other vehicles (or during foul weather and/or low visibility) are lower. Legal provisions allow operators to set the limit to 150 km/h (93 mph) on their concessions on a voluntary basis if the following conditions are met: three lanes in each direction and a working SICVE, or Safety Tutor, speed-camera system that measure the average speed. In 2016, no road was utilizing this possibility.

The first speed limit, to 120 km/h (75 mph), was enacted in November 1973 as a result of the 1973 oil crisis.[5] In October 1977, a graduated system was introduced: cars of above 1,300 cc (79 cu in) had a 140 km/h (87 mph) speed limit, cars of 900-1299 cc had a limit of 130 km/h (81 mph), those of 600-899 cc could drive at 110 km/h (68 mph), and those of 599 cc (36.6 cu in) or less had a maximum speed of 90 km/h (56 mph).[5] In July 1988 a blanket speed limit of 110 km/h (68 mph) was imposed on all cars above 600 cc (the lower limit was kept for smaller cars) by the short lived PSDI government. In September 1989 this was increased to 130 km/h (81 mph) for cars above 1,100 cc (67 cu in) and 110 km/h (68 mph) for smaller ones
Don't forget in the late seventies, there were still hundreds of thousands of Fiat 500s on Italian roads and the similar sized Fiat 126 was popular, so having a special limit of 90 km/h made sense for these tiny cars as they would struggle above 100km/h( 62 mph) and would overheat and break down.
