Re: Manky Signs
Not particularly manky, but quite overgrown, but this sign irritated me every day I drive past it, with it's wrong font!

And whilst I'm posting, this always drives me mad too. Why is it in brackets? It IS the M6!

The A580 bus lane killed this one off but a smaller sibling survives further along.

Re: Manky Signs
This manky old destination distance sign remains on the A46
This sign is very indicative of the dreadful quality of this stretch of the A46, between the A606 interchange and Six Hills. A sub-standard stretch of D2 with at-grade LILO's, farm turns and gaps in the central reservation, hidden dips. But most of all, the very worst road surface you can possibly imagine. It's truly awful, I can't think of a primary route I have travelled on with a worse surface than this stretch of road.

Re: Manky Signs
I saw this one yesterday just off the A38 near Bristol Airport. The street view is from 2 years ago and it's got worse since then. They don't matter too much as the prohibition is obviously coming to an end on the main road and the prohibition signs on the other side are clean and clear.

Re: Manky Signs
Dont forget trunk as well Yes its pretty awful, a few sections have been resurfaced over the years. I think the junctions themselves need improvement, to be honest first, it sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the recently upgraded northern section.danfw194 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 21:44 This manky old destination distance sign remains on the A46

Re: Manky Signs
It's the road surface that hammers the nail in the coffin for me. The junctions are similarly below par in the Six Hills to Syston section, but at least your suspension isn't being ruined driving along it.

Re: Manky Signs
On the B4239 Lighthouse Road in Newport, approaching the Pont Ebbw roundabout. 5he sign has been like this for several years. Hopefully it will be replaced as part of the improvement (hamburgerisation) of the roundabout currently being undertaken by the Welsh Government.
Incidentally, none of the roads involved (barring the M4 slip roads to/from the nearby Tredegar Park roundabout) are normally trunk but have been temporarily made so for the duration of the work according to Newport City Council.

You can find any answers you want on the Internet. Some of them may even be correct.
Re: Manky Signs
This sign approaching the A40 has deteriorated a lot since the 2010 Google image was taken. The green patches are now almost a solid colour with A40 hardly visible.

Re: Manky Signs
This one in Burford (Shropshire) is still there and needless to say hasn't improved in readability since the Street View van was last there.

It's strange how the brown sign below it is new yet the more important direction sign has been left to deteriorate.Worcestershire Wolf wrote: ↑Sat Sep 01, 2018 16:04 This one in Burford (Shropshire) is still there and needless to say hasn't improved in readability since the Street View van was last there.

Re: Manky Signs
I notice during my last drive on the B6318, the ancient Worboys sign where you join the former A69 through Heddon on the Wall had been partially dismantled, although part of the sign still remained that read A69 Hexham. This has been in situ since the late sixties and should really have been removed, or renumbered, in 1976. Anyone have a photo of this as for all it was in a reasonable condition, it was so out of date?

Re: Manky Signs
Agreed! Awful surface when I drove it for the first time. Good job the whole road is being straightened and widened.
Saw an old sign on the M56/53 intersection while going to the shopping paradise that is Cheshire Oaks......

Re: Manky Signs
Thankyou, and it's amazing such an ancient road sign survives now, as I thought when a part of it was removed this summer that would be the end, but apparently the old boy lives on, in the same way a very battered sign in Egremont still reads A595 Barrow,Bryn666 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 02, 2018 17:36Google has it.Glenn A wrote: ↑Sun Sep 02, 2018 16:26 I notice during my last drive on the B6318, the ancient Worboys sign where you join the former A69 through Heddon on the Wall had been partially dismantled, although part of the sign still remained that read A69 Hexham. 1) Took this picture 2 days ago, on the A5 at Betws-y-Coed.
2) And this manky brown sign is still going strong on the A55 eastbound:
