Re: Botched Roadsigns
How have I not noticed that gem - I must have mentally had in my head that it read M1 North!
Is there a road improvement project going on near you? Help us to document it on the SABRE Wiki - help is available in the Digest forum.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Aside from the obvious problem, the following signs don't even say "M1(S)"!
I have websites about: motorway services | Fareham

Re: Botched Roadsigns
"Speed limit ahead" implies that the road upon which the sign has been placed doesn't have a speed limit. Presumably it does, even if that limit is NSL.Big L wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 20:55 Do we think Shropshire are correct in signposting Speed Limit Ahead as a hazard?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Where shall we start?
Can you have two opposite-pointing chevrons on the same direction sign? (Should this even be signed as an 'at junction direction' in the first place?)
Also, yellow background overload!
Also, let's scroll round a little bit - would this pair of B4100 direction signs be more usefully placed for traffic emerging from Chesterton Road if they were sited on the opposite side of the B4100? I'm going with yes, they would.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Aren't you meant to, when giving the distance to a restriction on an ADS, measure it from the junction? Because this isn't what happens in Woking, it appears, for either the no entry (which was one way so you could go up it when this was taken anyway, due to roadworks), or the buses and cycles only. It's wrong further up too, and then the restriction at the junction is different, with an allowance for authorised vehicles and it only applies at certain times. Surely the restriction should be consistent?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Where was the non-prescribed document for this prohibition then? (note use of tons instead of tonnes)
Or do you not need one since this sign has already been there for years?
Then further up is how not to deal with a junction.

I can give you one with opposite-pointing arrows (here).ellandback wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 13:26Can you have two opposite-pointing chevrons on the same direction sign?

There's a sign here warning of a humped pelican crossing. Look in the distance - there is a zebra crossing with no sign of any humps.

I’ve visited these Roads; A11(2019) A14(2019)M11(2012, 2013 and 2019) and M3(2015, 2017 and 2018)

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I wonder if the footway was a shared use facility (eg cycles can use it in the absence of proper engineering) before or after the sign was modified that way?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
It's a poor sign for the junction anyway. You're approaching a motorway-style two-bridge roundabout interchange, so the shape of the roundabout and the placement of the sliproads on the sign should show that.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
In Porthleven, they decided that the correct 'opposite' of the "Give way to oncoming vehicles" is just the same sign turned upside down!
Re: Botched Roadsigns
In Hugh Town, Isles of Scilly, there is hardly any traffic and hardly any signs. But a few of their single-yellow-line restriction signs have the word "between" thrown in for no apparent reason. Some of them are standard, though.

Now be fair, they've got the shapes right, it's very picky of you to expect perfection...Beardy5632 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 17:07 Going to the rugby yesterday I spotted this colour mix up.

Not the only ones to use the "Reduce Speed Now" With speed limits. "Reduce Speed Now" must only be used with bends, junctions, crossroads and roundabouts ONLY.Big L wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 20:55 Do we think Shropshire are correct in signposting Speed Limit Ahead as a hazard?

Reported it to the local council, however they said they haven't got enough money to remove the signs...

Re: Botched Roadsigns
You could easily fill 16 pages of botched signs on the A272, mainly direction signs varying between primary and non-primary status. I drove nearly the entire length of the road last week and I think West Sussex County council need a few more emails passed their way...
