Quite. Also many such tourist signs require private funding. I'm not sure how you'd go about that if it's a panel on a larger sign.

Usually a %age contribution is how I worked it out. The high number usually put people off...

It always amused me when some tiny tourist venue, (that rarely, if ever, qualified as being one), asked for signing from the motorway network. Six figure sum minimum - and not a small one at that.Bryn666 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 13:05Usually a %age contribution is how I worked it out. The high number usually put people off...

A row of corner shops in part of Blackburn wanted signs off the M65. Spineless manager was trying to snivel his way into their good books by saying we could install the signs on behalf of Area 10.Conekicker wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 18:09It always amused me when some tiny tourist venue, (that rarely, if ever, qualified as being one), asked for signing from the motorway network. Meanwhile in Horwich...
Has anyone told Middlebrook about corporate liability where signs are concerned?

Oh no it isn't!
Oh yes it is!

surely work out the cost for the sign without the patch (being smaller), the cost with the patch, and charge the difference?Bryn666 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 13:05Usually a %age contribution is how I worked it out. The high number usually put people off...

Re: Botched Roadsigns
What counts as a valid tourist destination?
For example, what if a local farmer decided to fund a dozen brown signs saying “Christmas Trees Here” ... or I fancied one saying “Andy’s House”

Highways England have a robust criteria in DMRB of all places, local authorities... not so much.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
On the A465 heading east past Glynneath, is Rhigos so important that it needs to be in uppercase? If you go back to earlier Streetviews, it had its own similar sized sign along with brown tourist destinations all in lowercase. I used the image from the westbound carriageway as the latest eastbound carriageway image show the sign obstructed with a workforce in road warning sign.

As well as 198kHz, Droitwich also broadcasts 693kHz (R5L), 1053kHz (TalkSport) and 1215kHz (Absolute).Chris Bertram wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 14:55Unrivalled view of the nearby R4 LW transmitting station.
Re: Botched Roadsigns
Ok, not botched as such but i'm impressed by all the signage put up along the Salford Western Gateway road. These 30 mph terminal signs (too small?) https://www.google.com/maps/@53.4721971 ... 312!8i6656 have been erected on a road to nowhere. Well, until it is finished. I think it's been like that for a couple of years now along the the sewage works junction just under the M60 viaduct that is even signed 'Sewage works' left turn but goes to a bank of earth!

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Why do some "designers" insist on creating this nonsense:

...he asked rhetorically.
