No, this is just the start of the process of the DPEA holding a Public Local Inquiry which is necessary due to unresolved objections. A pre-inquiry meeting is planned for July and if necessary inquiry sessions should then be held in November. The reporter will then prepare a report for Scottish Ministers which will likely take several months and it will then likely be several more months before the Scottish Ministers reach a decision.

Yes. It's been good to see things progressing again.They have been back for a couple of weeks. Prior to that there were small jobs getting done and setting up what looks like more site facilities, toilets etc at the main work areas.

The report for Tay Crossing to Ballingluig has now been issued to Scottish Ministers.


Status of all schemes:

Luncarty to Pass of Birnam: Under construction (started in February 2019, now resumed after temporary suspension due to coronavirus).

Pass of Birnam to Tay Crossing: Awaiting preferred route announcement following consultation on options developed since the co-creative process.

Tay Crossing to Ballinluig: Report issued to Scottish Ministers (July 2020).

Pitlochry to Killiecrankie: Decision issued confirming orders on 11 February 2020.

Killiecrankie to Glen Garry: Inquiry sessions held over 2 weeks starting 13 January 2020, report now being prepared for Scottish Ministers.

Glen Garry to Dalwhinnie: Decision issued confirming orders on 31 May 2019, the scheme now awaits Made Orders.

Dalwhinnie to Crubenmore: Report issued to Scottish Ministers (November 2019).

Crubenmore to Kincraig: Reporter allocated, pre-inquiry meeting not yet scheduled.

Kincraig to Dalraddy: Completed (September 2017).

Dalraddy to Schlod: First inquiry sessions scheduled to begin on 9 March 2020 cancelled due to withdrawal of objections. Second inquiry sessions (required due to a very late request from two statutory objectors to participate in an inquiry session) now also cancelled, one objector has withdrawn their objection and the other is to be dealt with by written submissions. Transport Scotland to submit full schedules of the modifications by 14 August 2020.

Tomatin to Moy: Decision issued confirming orders on 11 February 2020.

Can someone clarify that after the Confirming Order the Made Orders and CPO follow at the same time with a gap while final objections can be made before tender stage?
Motorways travelled 2019 - M90 - M9 - M80 - M8 -M77 - M73 -A74(M) -M6-M42-M40 -A404(M) - M4 - M5 -M50 -M56 much better so far than last year

Yes I believe that’s correct. Made Orders for at least one section must be imminent.

Interesting so 6 schemes are reasonably likely to go ahead soon and 4 are still a way off nice.

I got a reply but by the time they thought of a reply Covid had hit so the email basically punted the whole thing down the timeline with a non comital answer

Luncarty to Birnam update. Long new section at the south and North end open to traffic. Existing road in the process of being ripped up.
Slip roads are forming at the Stanley Junction in the middle.

Not been on road since mid July and not due again till early Nov - look forward to seeing the changes.

Normally go to Dunkeld every couple of months so this will certainly make things easier/quicker.

Pity there's no sign of a shovel ready third section being underway.

Someone handily produced a table in this thread a while ago that predicted what the next section to begin construction was.

It would be good go know what was going to be the next section.

The chart you mention might have been the one I made. It’s on page 71 of this thread.

The front-runners for the next section to be dualled are probably Pitlochry to Killiecrankie and Tomatin to Moy. Both gained ministers’ approval on 11/2/20. Glen Garry to Dalwhinnie was approved on 31/5/19, but this is likely to be combined with Dalwhinnie to Crubenmore which is still awaiting a decision.

None of these schemes are at the Made Orders stage yet, so at least a year until work starts on any of them. It is therefore likely that once Luncarty to Pass of Birnam is completed there will be a phase where no construction is taking place.

Will the gap be next September per chance? I only ask as I plan to go to Scotland again around that time next year.

As we have a Scottish Elections next year and assuming they get their expected majority, the SNP will then be pushing for an Indyref which they are anticipating they will win . With an eye on a significant post Indy budget deficit, I will be surprised if they kick off any big ticket projects . Forgive my pessimism but I fear the A9 dialling project will end with the current section.

Are you sure they wont try and squeeze as much out of UK gov before full independence? I know I would in that position.

North of Perth never has been high on the SNP radar as is unlikely to vote SNP or back independence ( unless their has been a significant swing) it has always been predominantly Liberal.
The common sense approach would be to grow the economy to narrow the budget deficit but that is very unlikely to happen. If they get Indyref2 and if they win( as per the current polls indicate) they will not waste anytime bouncing Scotland out of the Union.
The A9 and the A96 ( both of which they have been dragging their feet on) will be indefinitely suspended, cancelled in all but name.

Looking at the 2003 Scottish Parliament election map

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... ts.svg.png shows that whilst the area north of Perth may have been majority LD, the SNP had significant inroads and indeed the North East was becoming a base for them.
