I assume it is a hint that if you want the North West you should be using the A14.

Well first of all the new GSV goes from the diverge between A1 southbound and the new A14, and then going over and above the A1 onto the new stretch. Shortly afterwards it then careens off onto the first emergency slip road (which, by the way, shows as the main carriageway) and any attempt to continue viewing what is actually the main carriageway beyond that, results in a sudden switch to what appears to be the old A14 (though appearing to be the new one).

Absurd!
Though roads may not put a smile on everyone's face, there is one road that always will: the road to home.

I think it's more that google doesn't deal very well with this sort of re-routing of roads and displaying a history - as this sort of use of streetview is fairly (shall we say) specialist (compared with using it to check out a house you might want to buy/check that there's a car park near somewhere you're visiting), it's probably fairly low down on their list of priorities to fix!

My guess would be that it's because A14(W) is signed for The NORTH WEST, so it matters to specify which bit of the north the A1 goes to, whereas most junctions on the A1 you're just looking at North or South.

I can't remember what it says now - it used to say the MIDLANDS (although the sign approaching Brampton Hut on the A14 was a naughty one that said The Midlands...)

Perhaps general traffic may also be diverted this way in the event of a blockage?

Speaking more generally, the scheme as a whole seems to be much better provided for than most when it comes to this sort of emergency access - has there been some sort of change to standards or something that has produced this?
They are for use in diversions, if A1 between Brampton Interchange and Brampton Hut were closed due to maintenance for instance, to give a route for the A14-A1 north traffic. (The A1 only traffic I guess could be diverted further away.) They were added late in the process, during the DCO examination, the A14 alignment was fixed and prevents these being proper 24/7 slips, sight distance considerations.

Not so much standards regarding provision of these accesses but process, HE Project Control Framework has products like maintenance and repair strategy statement requiring buy in from the maintaining parts of HE (as well as general CDM considerations).

Where, as a matter of interest? I thought everywhere else round those junctions it was a A14 MIDLANDS/A1 NORTH diverge.

That is certainly what is showing on the pre-upgrade signs on GSV, but I'm sure I've seen a picture of one of the new signs for the A14(W) that says both The MIDLANDS and The NORTH WEST. But I don't know where I saw it, so I apologise if I've completely imagined it!

You might be referring to this sign with the "The North West" and "The Midlands" approaching the dumbbell from Brampton Hut.

That being said does the North West need to be signed? Cambridge to Manchester is identical in distance and time via the A14/M6 and M62/M1 in addition it may confuse drivers who associate the "The North East" as I do as Teeside and Newcastle.

Thank you ... yes, I knew I had seen it somewhere!
(Incidentally, which chump signed off on having Kettering and Ellington shown on equal terms on a primary sign? 🙄)

What has The North East got to do with it?

The North East is signposted on the northbound slip of the A1 from the Brampton Hut roundabout.

Just want to say I drove the new A14 from the A1 to east of Cambridge the other week (and back) and it’s awesome!

Pity my 2014 era satnav goes haywire (it does have that the old A14 is blocked in Huntingdon, but thinks the only options are various cross country/through Huntingdon routes) but a nice drive and now the construction gubbins is largely over its easy to navigate.

A find from the recent excavation works on the A14 has been put back together. BBC report. A "decorated" Roman millstone.

New signage is now on the gantries on the A1(M), only 14 months late (can't remember seeing it there in February). It marks the lane drop as "(A1307)" instead of "A1307", which I guess is the most correct way to sign it since the spur, as far as I am aware, is still the "A14(M)", and "A14(M) (A1307)" would look silly on a sign, and confusing.

Also when heading South today a car ended up using the (extra wide) hard shoulder to diverge instead of staying in Lane 1.
The countdown markers to the junction are still there, although I presume they are meant to of been removed since its a lane drop with no aux lane now?

Would it still be A14(M) when it no longer links to the A14?
