Re: Botched Roadsigns
Maybe one or other of the sponsors paid for the signs and each subsequent sponsor has had them patched.

Not so much "botched" as "rapidly breeding": https://twitter.com/f0rmat/status/1381954432854802433
(still, fair play to them for actually having a pedestrian entrance)

Happily, you wouldn't have to move them far to get them in a skipRichard_Fairhurst wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 17:37Not so much "botched" as "rapidly breeding": https://twitter.com/f0rmat/status/1381954432854802433

(Only if you're a resident of Glasgow, though. That facility is only for residents of Glasgow.)

Yeah, Sheffield City Council don't want any of those pesky pedestrians trying to dispose of their rubbish responsibly.Richard_Fairhurst wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 17:37 (still, fair play to them for actually having a pedestrian entrance)
Re: Botched Roadsigns
Also the height restriction sign has 5'11" - surely that should be 5'9" or maybe 6'0".the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 13:15Yeah, Sheffield City Council don't want any of those pesky pedestrians trying to dispose of their rubbish responsibly.Richard_Fairhurst wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 17:37 (still, fair play to them for actually having a pedestrian entrance)
Also that no pedestrian sign could just be a no man sign, since all men are 6' or over.
Re: Botched Roadsigns
Is this a botch? road numbers inside the black patch? A565 should also be gold?
Re: Botched Roadsigns
The 7.5t is non-prescribed, should just be a lorry symbol. Route numbers are fine. A565 in white is wrong.
All in all, not a very good sign.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Which way to Whittlesey?
You actually have to take the exit, but the sign makes it look a lot like the exit is just for the distribution centre and Whittlesey is actually straight on.
Oh, and you only have a few seconds to work this out. This is the only ADS for the junction (when approaching from this direction), and it's placed after the 100yds count down marker, Not only is it the only ADS, it's also the only sign altogether; there are no signs at the diverge, and nothing else serving the purpose that a diverge or flag sign would normally serve. So if someone is trying to get to Whittlesey for the first time, they're very unlikely to realise that they've missed their exit.
I think this one's a lot more insidious than a typical botched roadsign because it isn't obviously wrong; there's nothing that makes you do a double-take and wonder what you're missing, it's just that there's more than one way to read it and the more obvious reading is wrong (especially as the sign placement is so terrible that it's hard to imagine that this is a junction between two primary routes).

Most of Peterborough's signs are appalling truth be told.ais523 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 06:25 Which way to Whittlesey?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I've driven past that exit because of the same reasons, the sign is very unclear.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I haven't measured it. It should however be a warning not a prohibition. There's a bar at the entrance but it will be opened if your vehicle is permitted in accordance with this sign, eg is a car with a roof rack or a small van with a permit.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
It says "no trespassing" (it's not very clear on the 2019 image, but step back to 2017 and you can read it). So pedestrians are allowed if they're there to dispose of rubbish responsibly. I've been there on foot many times and never been challenged, though not in the last few years as I've moved out of the area.the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 13:15Yeah, Sheffield City Council don't want any of those pesky pedestrians trying to dispose of their rubbish responsibly.Richard_Fairhurst wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 17:37 (still, fair play to them for actually having a pedestrian entrance)
I notice that the sign has been changed to "no unauthorized entry" on the 2020 image.
Also that big spiked gate is pretty pointless as there's a footpath along the Meers Brook "inside" the gate (and another set of gates to get into the site itself).

...and it's referring to a restriction further up the road that only applies at certain times and probably isn't enforced.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Ermmm, why does this need a patch? Does Wakefield need highlighting because it's bigger than the other 3 places?
And while we're in Wakefield let's check out the A61 for some more primary or non-primary confusion. :

Wakefield you say? They have some very strange ideas about traffic signs.the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 13:25 Ermmm, why does this need a patch? Does Wakefield need highlighting because it's bigger than the other 3 places?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
There's roadworks in Uttoxeter at the junction of the A518/B5013, with a 40 limit extending somewhat inexplicably about 2 miles west on the A518. It is terminated with a 40 sign with an "End" plate beneath. No photo as I was driving, at 40 just like everyone else

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Trams are not permitted weekday evening peaks it would seem. I wonder if they know?

ICBW but I don't think trams have to obey road signs and signals – they have separate signs and signals that are quite different.Conekicker wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 10:21 Trams are not permitted weekday evening peaks it would seem. I wonder if they know?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Allowing that Diagram 953.1 through to 953.1C post-dates that tram system being installed, the fact those signs exist would tend to say otherwise.Stevie D wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 11:10ICBW but I don't think trams have to obey road signs and signals – they have separate signs and signals that are quite different.Conekicker wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 10:21 Trams are not permitted weekday evening peaks it would seem.
