Any reason for this restriction in Orford?

Post by Chris56000 »

Does anybody know the reason for the restriction on this sign in Orford?

https://maps.app.goo.gl/rDPBgyNg2NDSPGFL6

"No vehicles to be left unattended on Quay".

(I would prefer the sign to have been done in white letters and a blue background to TSRGD specification and a bit bigger in size tho!)

Safety in bad weather? Commercial reasons?

Admittedly there is parking and information just to the left of where the road to the quay commences past the end of the B1084 (G.M. shows the B1084 ends at the car–park entrance) where Church St. ends and becomes Quay St!

I have a few ideas based on a trip across the water there many years ago. It's mostly about the money and who actually pays to use the Quay...

It keeps the Quay open for the fishing boats vans to load up and take fresh fish to market.
Enables access for the pleasure boat crowd who will want to get their vehicles and trailers in there.
Keeps the quay open for those taking the car ferry across to Orford Ness - National Trust, Radio Caroline, Cobra Mist Ltd, RNLI, MoD.
Gets the tourists to pay for parking in the car park!

The sign says New Orford Town Trust at the bottom - this is a charity set up to run parts of the village for the parish council. The Quay is probably their biggest revenue earner!
