Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Spotted a couple in the wild lately. Maybe they've already been noted, but they were new to me.

Big Nick's example has reminded me of a similar one in Brecon that I don't think I've posted before.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Until recently, this sign has been attached to some railings on The Struet, Brecon. It's not very clear as it's quite worn, but it says "Remember Your Kerb Drill".

The last time I walked along there I noticed that it's been removed. I hope the council haven't thrown it away. Maybe they're renovating it? Or maybe someone's taken it for themselves or to sell on eBay? I'm away on holiday at the moment and I'll be keen to look to see if it's gone back when I return.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
I had a quick search of this thread but didn't find anything about this NSL sign - although it's been painted over, there are some of the reflectors left. What I think is interesting about this one is the way it is attached to the lamp post being clamped around the post but the clamps seem to be cast into the sign.

An absolute beauty on the remote B4405 in Wales:

Seen in Leek Potteries 10 A53, presumably Stoke on Trent couldn't be signed because it didn't exist?

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Both arms are pointing the wrong way, though. It looks like the whole sign has swung round by 180 degrees.the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 13:18 Seen in Leek Potteries 10 A53, presumably Stoke on Trent couldn't be signed because it didn't exist?
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
That sign pretty much predates the present road system in Leek. Originally this was where the A523 crossed the A53 and so there was a finger pointing in each direction. When A523 traffic was diverted away from Derby Street, that finger was moved to point up Ball Haye Street and a new finger "To Markets" replaced it. Although the lamppost survived the removal of the roundabout, the fingers weren't so fortunate. Checking out Street View suggests that some have been removed and others are pointing the wrong way.
It could emphasise what people in Leek think about Stoke, of course.

I've been walking past this in the East End every day for 6 years and not noticed it until today:

Wow, both totally new to the internet. I've covered a little of the Humberside and Yorkshire area but that is out of my patch.Klepsydra wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 21:43 Spotted a couple in the wild lately. Maybe they've already been noted, but they were new to me.

Were it not for a Flickr friend spotting it I'd never have known about it till now. It was a massive tick on my box list.Nathan_A_RF wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 17:11 Nice gem in Frinton

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
That's the handle to open the valve or whatever is behind the door there, which happens to look exactly like an NSL sign until you notice the two flanges attached either side which are part of what would be a sign.Boxey11 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 18:04 NSL.JPGI had a quick search of this thread but didn't find anything about this NSL sign - although it's been painted over, there are some of the reflectors left. Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
That's a real shame but not unexpected, thank goodness you got a photo of it first. I don't know if it was a one off but unlikely.Octaviadriver wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 17:55 Until recently, this sign has been attached to some railings on The Struet, Brecon. This was the only one I could discover in advance in Hereford, I hope I didn't miss any others.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
I wonder how old that is - the lettering looks home made and the style of the chevron at the end of the arm is a type that was introduced with the Worboys report and wouldn't have been used before then. It looks like someone has repurposed an old fingerpost.the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 13:46 Baslow has a nice old sign pointing to the Village Shop
