I'm going to drop these in here as they are pre-Worboys 'council' signs or rather Manchester Corporation Water Works. They are to be found in Cumbria of all places, Haweswater Reservoir being where Manchester takes part of its water supply from.

These are on bogs at Abergele & Pensarn Beach car park. Had to wait until there was nobody around to capture these

Wouldn't be allowed now, not without Merched/Dynion signage for the many Welsh people unable to read English. Or perhaps just replace them with symbolic signage.

Continuing from the obscure petrol station brands thread on the road transport section. These were captured the other day at Four Lanes Garage along the A559 at Marston near Northwich. The garage is rather old school and these look fairly elderly. Although i'm not certain they are pre worboys era.

The lettering is definitely PW, and the signs do look old, so a good bet I’d say.

Two from Marylebone. I am tempted to consider the arrow one pre-Worboys as if it was aiming at a town or church etc. it would count, so a specific location could apply? Unfortunately the actual location is long gone but pleased they kept the sign for history.

Imagenature sign

This one is the only one I've seen for residents only, and as I've probably covered 98% of the park area is probably the only one in existence.

This may have qualified as official if not for the city name, but a lovely survivor anyway.

A lovely arrow-free direction sign in Dereham

And this one (in Norwich) does have a rather fetching direction arrow but also has to have a brownie point for the '&c' squashed in at the end

Better than that. As it's green it's a path sign to an actual place. There are a few around Enfield but I hadn't seen any elsewhere till now.

I'm not sure if this is pre-Worboys but it certainly looked rather dated when I saw it two weeks ago.

What's the old sign above it in the bush?

I think it's a very manky no through road sign for the side road next to it.

Not sure it's pre-worboys but a nice old direction sign for amusement arcade and beach. Amusement arcade closed over 20 years ago.

Here's a nice one in Harlesden, on a public road but clearly railway properties. It is either stencilled or hand painted.

Not posted for a while and a bit of a thread revival.

'No right of way' plate just by the footbridge at Little Sutton station. haven't come across one of these searching the web yet?

I've never seen a service cul-de-sac before, had it been on its own sign it would be pre-Worboys, but when part of a road name it's council issue. Coventry.
