Re: Roads before and after construction
Interesting thing about the A299 Thanet Way By-Pass is that it has been named as the Thanet Way but the old A299 (now A2990) is also still the Thanet Way so there appears to be 2 separate roads named Thanet Way running parallel to each other.

Re: Roads before and after construction
Another view of the field (future A289) between Higham and Wainscott, Kent. The trees on the right of the picture will be removed, the trees on the left of the picture will survive construction of the road.

Re: Roads before and after construction
The view after completion, what was a field (between Higham and Wainscott) is now the Dillywood Lane overbridge and the A289 dual carriageway.

Excellent historical documents - and showing how photographic quality has improved over the last three decades.
Thank you for posting. I must dig out my slides of the M3 construction around Winchester.

The A299, A2990 and the old road here.

I imagine the road names are retained to avoid large numbers of people and businesses having to change their address.

The lane to Topfield Farm (near Hilton), Cambridgeshire. The first picture shows the lane in 2016 before the A14 construction had started. The second picture shows the same view in 2022 after the bridge over the A14 has been completed.
