Forest City Manchester - Light Identification

Post by Arfoulkes »

Hi.

I'm pretty new to the whole lights interest, and I've been sent some photos of some signal lights, made by Forest City that I'd like more information on if possible.

Does anyone know their specific use? Or what age they are?

Thanks for any help

Best wishes
Andrew

They look like temporary traffic lights, which generally only had red and green lamps up to the mid sixties. Tripod mounting was usual for this type.

Yeah, I thought the same, like roadwork lights. So they could be anytime up to the 60s.

Are they relatively common then? I've never really seen any like them.

Would they have much value?

Thanks for the reply, and help

They are the sort of thing a motoring themed bar or restaurant would be interested in as well as collectors and museums so I would imagine they would have some value. As always with these things that depends on how much the buyer wants them and if they work.

The lights shown are indeed temporary signals for roadworks. I have a set made by a different company (can't remember the name and they are stored away for now), see attached picture. I don't have the tripod though. The red light now has a proper glass STOP lens fitted since the picture was taken.
