Re: Manky Signs
Come to Surrey, lots of towns still seem to have town centres marked out with these! The village of Milford, just off the A3, has seemingly a full set, one or two on every approach road.Kevin Roads wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 14:10 The other best find, again a complete - but pleasant - surprise. This is only the second one of these that I've seen.

How long ago was Milford bypassed by the A3? Is this a relic or an error? https://goo.gl/maps/zsdSJPVmTJU6z73G7
Re: Manky Signs
Another approach to the same junction has a faded no parking sign. Just south of there are two pre-Worboys 40 repeaters in a row.crazyknightsfan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 09:39Nice manky blue-bordered sign in Milford, Surrey: https://goo.gl/maps/myp12fNZvodMgD6q6 (with bonus motorcycle on its side)
1989, so that's a relic from when the road ahead actually was the A3.How long ago was Milford bypassed by the A3? Is this a relic or an error? https://goo.gl/maps/zsdSJPVmTJU6z73G7
The road to the right, from that perspective, is the start of the original 1920s Guildford and Godalming Bypass, so the road the sign stands on was the A3 for a few years until the bypass opened. The southern end of the bypass was then itself bypassed by the 1989 A3 Milford Bypass.

Shame the trees don't cover that one up. Look at the VRS, untensioned on wooden posts - how ancient is that set up!
Re: Manky Signs
That’s a bit of an oddity. It has a junction name at the top, which was only formally introduced in 1994, but has pre-1994 patches for the primary routes.Conekicker wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 21:22One of the other approaches.

It's incredible for that reason, and probably doomed when the GSJs get completed.Chris5156 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 13:49That’s a bit of an oddity. Terminally cynical, unimpressed, and nearly Middle Age already.

The SABRE Wiki has the answer - B6276. It appears that part of the route was formerly B6277.crazyknightsfan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 20, 2022 15:27 Was the B6276 previously known as a different number?

However that does not apply to the section in question. Maybe the sign was illegible, or actually wrong?

From the SABRE Wiki: B6276 :
The B6276 crosses the Lune Forest in the North Pennines.
The road starts in the tiny primary destination of Brough, on the edge of the Eden Valley, as the northern continuation of the A685 at the point that road peters out at its GSJ with the A66. Our road heads north to a T-junction, where it TOTSOs right, thus taking over some of the pre-bypass route of both these roads. After leaving
