This doesn't show much, but slightly amusing and worth the 30 seconds to watch it.

For those who were interested in the cycle bridge at Chiverton. This looks promising.

It says that it should be completed by winter 2023, which is when the road scheme is due to open. Hopefully, this will mean no further disruption after opening, at least not during the summer months.RichardEvans67 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 14:36 https://www.falmouthpacket.co.uk/news/2 ... nts-trail/

Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
I didn't spot the date. But I'm thinking a bridge scheme like this is tiny compared to the whole road scheme. However it would be worth timing it so that the disruption avoids the summer.by IAN » Fri Jun 17, 2022 15:19

Edit:
Actually I'm surprised it has a similar completion time to the road scheme.
When the foot bridge over the M20 got hit a few years ago. They had to delay replacing the bridge, because there was also a smart motorway scheme. They weren't able to get the bridge replacement included in the smart motorway scheme. So the bridge replacement had to wait until the smart motorway scheme was complete.
So I'm a bit surprised they don't have to wait for the end of the Chiverton scheme before they do the bridge. Perhaps the Falmouth Packet got this wrong.

I wonder how long it will have to be closed for.

Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
I'm slightly curious as to why there seems to be a temporary embankment parallel to the bridge (but a bit lower). I presume that to go to that much trouble, there must be no reasonable alternative access to some part of the site.
Edit :
Actually it seems to be the haul route going this way for some reason.

Is the idea that when the bridge is completed it will be used to carry the temporary A30 while the upgrade is completed?RichardEvans67 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 06:29 https://www.facebook.com/ChevronTraffic ... 6436873640

Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
That's the plan that I've seen. Perhaps with some temporary traffic signals to give higher priority to the A30 traffic. There's no particular reason to think that they wouldn't do something along those lines.by IAN » Wed Jun 29, 2022 17:54

Edit:
Although one possibility. If the west facing slips are ready, they may be a better option than using the new local route going west of the South roundabout.

Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
Interesting diversion route, going east why not continue along the A392 to A39 at Indian Queens which is signed route for A30 (Bodmin).
It seems the diversion route will be in conflict with the primary road signs

Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
It's high summer and the A392 is the primary route for tourists from the rest of the country. This is a wise diversion.

Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
Bear in mind it's only overnight closures (I can't imagine daytime closures would go down well at all at this time of year!), so the A392 would easily be able to cope.

Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
Perhaps that would risk causing more confusion for drivers going to somewhere between Summercourt and Indian Queens.by A303Chris » Mon Jul 18, 2022 20:56

Edit:
Also with the much lower traffic levels at night, drivers might appreciate the diversion just being as short as practical.
Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
In Cornwall things tend to overrun... We are a little more relaxed about these things. Best to avoid the risk so the tourists can keep moving and spending!
Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
Anyone able to confirm if this new section will have NMU/ped/cyclist restrictions?
Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
AIUI no other sections of the A30 have restrictions, including those of ‘expressway’ standard so why would this one be any different?

Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
It actually looks like they will. Unlike a number of other schemes, this one is a full offline dualling. Planning Inspectorate
When I was there it was just a "narrow lanes" prohibition at Zelah.
Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
Because somewhere has to be first?
And they're spending some of the project budget on building new sections of road to join up the existing A30, which makes me suspect they plan to keep NMUs off the new section.
