It's nothing like the original plans is it? Maybe they've learnt from the Welsh who seem to like building temporary roundabouts everywhere for big projects. Thing is, there will be queues through the summer, but the roundabouts do seem to work fairly effectively. IE: The queues aren't actually as bad as you'd expect at the temporary points.RichardEvans67 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 13:37That's a significant departure from the plans previously found online.by adam 1972 » Mon Apr 11, 2022 16:00

Looks like the right turn from the B3284(S) to the A30(E) is important enough to keep it open.

I wonder why the traffic management under the bridge has had to be there for so long. They still don't appear to have done anything to the old bridge, or to start building the new one. But it seems ages since they put in place the current arrangements under the bridge.by Sam S » Mon Apr 11, 2022 22:54
The first is a view East towards Carland Cross taken on the Zelah bypass from the existing Tolgroggan overbridge.

I'm still wondering about whether they would need some temporary traffic signals, to give the A30 traffic some priority when it gets busy.by Hdeng16 » Tue Apr 12, 2022 13:49

That seems a considerable amount of temporary roads including a roundabout for the traffic management. Why does it have to be so big, I presume it's for the new Chybucca junction, but trying to the plans of the scheme on the NE website is like looking for a needle in a haystack.adam 1972 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 16:00Chybucca temporary layout https://mcusercontent.com/1d4eb632df7c9 ... rawing.pdfA30 Traffic Management Alert

Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
Well. I think a lot of the temporary routes are adapting roads that are going to be permanent eventually. Or using existing roads. There are a few extra bits, where they need to move traffic away from where they are going to build embanked stuff, for the new junction. Plus the temporary roundabout, but it's not really a big roundabout.by A303Chris » Tue Apr 12, 2022 14:13

Edit:
As I see it.
NW of the roundabout is almost entirely the new B3284.
NE of the roundabout, starts of on the new B3284, but then needs a fair length of temporary route to go around the junction works, and then tie into the A30 to the East.
SE of the roundabout, is partly the existing B3284, but with the temporary realignment to go around the junction works.
SW is mostly the Existing A30 westbound carriageway.
Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
I was thinking that also, every time I have driven the B3284(S) to the A30 since the no right turn was put in place people are just ignoring it & turning right anyway.RichardEvans67 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 13:37 That's a significant departure from the plans previously found online.

Noticed, they've now added the scheme to Open Street map
https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/50.3203/-5.0795
Although I think they've got quite a few of the details wrong.
For starters, they show the Zelah Bypass taking rather a diversion.
Plus at Chiverton, they show the New A390 link using part of the old A3075, which I don't think is right.

Also Chybucca is wrong, they have put the new junction in the wrong place, should be further east.RichardEvans67 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 15:54 Noticed, they've now added the scheme to Open Street map

I noticed that afterwards. Also the Chiverton Roundabout is too far to the East, and I think the alignment there is a bit too close to Treviome Park.by adam 1972 » Tue Apr 12, 2022 16:46

There are lots of bits that I think are a bit wrong, but at least they made an attempt.
Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
The kink around the Zelah bypass is considerably incorrect! Good attempt though.... Improvement needed!RichardEvans67 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 09:04I noticed that afterwards. Looking at Sentinel Playground, for 19th April. You can make out where the temporary Chybucca roundabout is going to go.

Good spot again Richard. They're really cracking on with that now. Hopefully not long to wait until another aerial video shows progress towards Chivvy X too.
Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
This is a great find, thank you. I can really see the progress across the the whole route.RichardEvans67 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 19:03 https://apps.sentinel-hub.com/sentinel- ... ates=false

On this page is a very recent webinar from Costain.
It is rather long, so if you don't want to watch the whole thing, I think the interesting parts are :
From start to about 18 min. What they are doing and progress to date.
Around about 30 min. Spot the Robot Dog.
About 50 min to the end. Questions.
I haven't so far read the rest of the page, I assume it will be things covered in the video.

Interesting little presentation. Thanks for sharing it. It's going to make a big difference to travelling through Cornwall.

From a local community group:
Some residents have received notice of major earth moving during a week of nights commencing the 16 May 2022 and possibly the weekend during the day as well at the end of that week.
This will be starting to take away the soil on the East side of the lane adjacent to the A30 as show in the attached image. It will involve one machine, which will be removing the soil and a series of 8-wheel HGV’s moving the soil to Carland Cross.
This will allow us to construct a dead lane for travelling east to remove the rest of the materials.

Looks like this is the start of constructing the new local route in this area. From a plan I downloaded, this section of new local route needs to be constructed 1st. So that they can then start building the new D2 alongside it, and work on the Two Barrows underbridge.
When they actually start widening the cutting, I would think there will be quite a bit of earth to move, and looks like they will be using the A30 to move it. I hope they have considered how to fit that around the holiday traffic.

I’m down in Cornwall on a business trip in a couple of weeks and is it wrong of me to be excited to see any changes to the road layout in the A30

Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
Not at all. When there have been schemes near enough to me in the past, I would drive through them every now and then, for no other purpose than to satisfy my curiosity. The last one was the A21 Tonbridge to Pembury. I would go and have a drive about once a month, (choosing a time when the traffic was quiet). Cornwall is much too far from me to do that. So I have to look for stuff online.by kevinse16 » Sun May 15, 2022 15:05

Re: A30 Carland Cross Chiverton Cross
The A30 is going to be closed all weekend (from May 20th to the 23rd) to allow the switch over at the Chybucca Junction. This will divert A30 traffic onto a new section of road to so that the existing A30 can be removed and construction can continue on the junction. Traffic will be diverted via the A3075 and B3285.
