The sign at the actual A634 junction does likewise. And it's odd, because if you take A634 you will in fact arrive in West Retford first!
Technically true but West Retford barely exists whereas East Retford is a market town so is worth signing. However only the signwriters of Maltby call it East Retford. Everybody else calls it Retford, for example Network Rail. Similarly no-one refers to West Hartlepool.
Agreed, West Retford is really just a ward on Bassetlaw council and not a separate town these days.

However, in Hartlepool there are still rivalries between the Headland - the old town - and West Hartlepool, most notably at rugby football where the teams of Hartlepool Rovers (representing the old town) and West Hartlepool vie annually for local supremacy with little love lost. A few years ago West ran into financial trouble and had to sell their ground on Brierton Lane. Rovers came to the rescue and offered a groundshare at the Friary, but this wasn't well-received by the members and there were resignations. West now have their own ground again, not far from the Brierton Land ground. (There is another club called simply Hartlepool RFC, plus another couple of smaller clubs, but they're irrelevant to this rivalry).

Not seen many crossroads warning signs where the road with priority turns. I assume this is a permitted variant?

Pretty sure I've seen a number of these. There are also T-junction signs where the priority road turns, so this is no different to those in principle.

Surely this is always the case anyway? I wonder if you are allowed to push past the sign then immediately start cycling again, especially since it doesn't actually seem to be one way. Probably a strong case for a full cycling exemption, really.

Weird. Isn't that just a footbridge? Hamworthy Branch at Poole by the looks of it.

Bang on.

In fairness, with a 2.5t limit...

But he is not a goods vehicle. Maybe a really big cargo bike could tip it?

I feel that signs for public telephones are rare, but the A10 from Kings Lynn is full of them:

I wonder why they aren't so common elsewhere. This one does appear to point to a K6 (not an expert on these) and appears to still be 'available' and not converted into a defibrillator or used as a public lavatory.

"No parking or loading on the first Sunday of each month 5:30am - 1pm" is quite unusual.
This and this level crossing have a different way of saying "keep crossing clear". Is this seen anywhere else?
"Through traffic keep to near side" (knocked wrong way in GSV)
"No left turn except vehicles under 7.5t"
This sign in Morden distinguishing between directions of the M25 must be weird right? Considering where the road sign, the information is fairly useless, since the bulk of traffic is using the A24 towards C.London already, and only traffic from the B286 would ever consider both these options to the M25. Also, google maps seems to think Aberconway Road in Morden is primary (the road signed for the M25 East on the sign). It is not, and is part of the B286.

Also a candidate for the "manky signs" thread (Hixon, Staffs)

Wem and Prees level crossings have "DO NOT STOP IN YELLOW BOX" signs.

In this scenario, traffic that is about to turn left must use the right-hand lane and cut in front of traffic in the left-hand lane, using the yellow hatched area to do so. The underlying reason is that traffic in the left-hand lane is usually queueing to get into the tip (turn right just before the gates from which the HGV is emerging)

Here'a a rare No Motorbikes in Towton. As this is a bridleway the sign isn't strictly necessary as motor vehicles aren't allowed anyway, so motorbikes are no more prohibited than any other motor vehicle.

These in Margate are unusual without any plates. What's even more strange is they are repeated on the reverse (can't be seen on SV).

Right turning bend with a road entrance on the right side of the bend

https://www.google.com/maps/@54.4261142 ... 384!8i8192

In practice the junction appears just after the bend, might both right hand bend plus junction to the right signs been more useful here?
