The M1 Jnc 24 area is practically bathed in streetlights, during many winter early morning runs south in which the A50 is predominantly pitch black - the VMS by Toyota is a noticeable landmark and the end junction which (especially during roadworks) was extremely well lit.

I have memories as a child of the strings of SOX (?) lanterns on the M1 near Bedford, which could be seen from a few miles before.

Bit of a tangent but always gets me that the M3 has very little lighting from M25 down to the M27. Only the section at Eastleigh. Was there any lighting on the northern section before the smart motorway works?
