A601(M) Carnforth Link Road Downgrading
Another section of S2 motorway bites the dust.
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/165
This, and the circulatory carriageway of the roundabout has become the B6254.
This has left the A601(M) to the north of the roundabout as an isolated stretch of motorway (for the time being).

The D2M bit that connects to the A6 should probably become a spur of the A6 now, or possibly patched to become A6(M).c2R wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:29 Another section of S2 motorway bites the dust.

That'll be a housing estate connecting into J35 any time soon then...

Sad news indeed. And more than a little weird that the connection between two motorways is on a B-road.c2R wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:29 Another section of S2 motorway bites the dust.

It doesn't help that Lancashire CC know bugger all about road classifications - they've managed to make the Penwortham Bypass a dog's dinner by having signs say it is the A59 in one direction and the A582 in the other.Chris5156 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:53Sad news indeed. This seems to be the same kind of sloppy work to be honest. Why only do half of the road? They're responsible for the northern half too.
Maybe they'll get the replacement signs right but given previous experience, no that'll be a shambles too. Maybe I should send them designs pro-bono just to spare my sanity.

Re: A601(M) Carnforth Link Road Downgrading
I believe the submitted plans are for a marina and holiday home site that would connect to the northern section of the A601(M) about halfway along.
( Will check with relatives in Carnforth and edit this if incorrect. )
Re: A601(M) Carnforth Link Road Downgrading
Last plans I saw were these: https://www.lancasterguardian.co.uk/new ... -m6-650750
I think I also heard something about a potential GP surgery but that could have just been the locals on Facebook nattering on about what they would like the most (Carnforth's main GP surgery is very overloaded, like most)
Re: A601(M) Carnforth Link Road Downgrading
So the only reason for the downgrading is to allow development
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?

It looks from the legislation itself that there are numerous corrections that central government have made to the local authority's legislation:Bryn666 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:55It doesn't help that Lancashire CC know bugger all about road classifications - they've managed to make the Penwortham Bypass a dog's dinner by having signs say it is the A59 in one direction and the A582 in the other.Chris5156 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:53Sad news indeed. The Secretary of State has modified this Order as follows:
1. The Map Drawing has been replaced and now includes reference to ‘Kellet Road Bridge’, ‘B6254 Kellet Road Carnforth’, ‘M6 Motorway’ and ‘Junction 35’.
2. The title of the Scheme throughout the Order has been modified to add brackets around the letter ‘M’.
3. In paragraph 1 of the Order, the word ‘provide’ has been replaced by the words ‘revoke the special road status’.
4. In paragraph 1 of the Order, the words ‘an all-purpose ‘B’ road for use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 of the Highways Act 1980 as amended’ have been removed.
5. In paragraph 2 of the Order, the words ‘all-purpose ‘B’ road’ have been removed.

Yes this is unrelated to the marina, which presumably will nuke the other half off the map.Quinny898 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 12:24Last plans I saw were these: https://www.lancasterguardian.co.uk/new ... -m6-650750

Just about to post about this but of course someone else got there first. I only noticed because OSM is, as ever, bang up to date: https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/81323000

Of course. It was updated about 10 minutes after I saw the first post on this topicPaul wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 22:40 Just about to post about this but of course someone else got there first. I only noticed because OSM is, as ever, bang up to date: https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/81323000

But has it actually happened yet? Yes, the order is in place but that doesn't mean it has been implemented on the ground.Alderpoint wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 23:10Of course. From what I can determine—and I'm not well-versed with reading Statutory Instruments—it came into effect on 27/01/20.SouthWest Philip wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 23:16 But has it actually happened yet? Yes, the order is in place but that doesn't mean it has been implemented on the ground.

Likely it has not, and on Waze there is a comment on the road to cover this.SouthWest Philip wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 23:16 But has it actually happened yet? Yes, the order is in place but that doesn't mean it has been implemented on the ground.
Looking at the legislation it certainly is not clear as to when it comes into force, but the planning application for the development which will have access onto this road (and so if probably the driver for the change) was approved some time ago and another planning applicaiton for the rest of the land enclosed by the link road has been submitted, so it is only a matter of time before it happens.
Let it snow.

Re: A601(M) Carnforth Link Road Downgrading
I wouldn't and would advise anyone against buying a house there as that land floods everytime there is heavy rain.
I still can't see why they can't just put another roundabout on the A6 for estate access, given the trouble we have trying to get out of Travellers Choice depot at times, a roundabout there would be far more useful than chopping up the A601(M)

It is very clear, but you do have to look up the references.Alderpoint wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 23:32Likely it has not, and on Waze there is a comment on the road to cover this.SouthWest Philip wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 23:16 But has it actually happened yet? Paragraph 1 of the linked order says it commences with publication of a notice, as required by paragraph 1 of schedule 2 of the Highways Act 1980.
If you look up that act, it will tell you that notices need to be published in the London Gazette.
Searching "A601(M)" on the Gazette's site you will find a notice informing of this order was published on March 4th.

That is when it came into force.
Re: A601(M) Carnforth Link Road Downgrading
Be interesting to see if the signs have been changed, given that End of Motorway signs and new ADS will have to be placed on Highways England maintained slip roads, and we all know how fast they are at changing things.someone wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 01:06It is very clear, but you do have to look up the references.Alderpoint wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 23:32Likely it has not, and on Waze there is a comment on the road to cover this.SouthWest Philip wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 23:16 But has it actually happened yet? Almsot certainly because the A6 goes through the centre of Carnforth the other side of the M6 from this development.I still can't see why they can't just put another roundabout on the A6 for estate access, given the trouble we have trying to get out of Travellers Choice depot at times, a roundabout there would be far more useful than chopping up the A601(M)
