Re: Roads that got blocked off
Here is a crossroads where all 4 streets have been blocked off at Northchurch Terrace, Dalston, London https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.54112 ... 8192?hl=en
Also nearby is a multiple No Through Road sign for several blocked off streets at Somerfield Rd, Finsbury Park.

Re: Roads that got blocked off
This used to be the B5369. I can understand why they blocked it off as the turn was downright nasty. There used to be a "No Entry" sign reminding you that squeezing between the bollards wouldn't be a good idea.
Nearby, this road was severed when a large supermarket was built on its route.

Re: Roads that got blocked off
That's been like that for as long as I can remember. Used to be a back-street cut through from when the A104 Lea Bridge Road S4 was a main route into London, cutting through to The City, apparently, avoiding pinch points.
Re: Roads that got blocked off
This one got blocked off by stealth (i.e. during the pandemic, when nobody would have been using it!).
I discovered by walking down it one day; sure glad I wasn't in the car.

Re: Roads that got blocked off
This section of Braemar Road in Billingham is interesting here because its closed off at both ends.
At the west end it has been closed off at Wolviston Road which was the old A19, so to get through you have head round the back roads via Glamis Road. This is understandable as even now Wolviston Road is the diversion route if the A19 is closed.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.61402 ... 6656?hl=en
The result is that to drive from 31 Braemar Road to No 30 you have to take 350 m detour. Its odd because the road where its blocked off is just another suburban street. It annoys delivery drivers and dustmen no end

It's on one of my two possible routes for walking to work. Since I first discovered it, I've seen plenty of similar manoeuvres being executed!

One example is in the City centre of Bristol.

Right here was where the Inner Circuit Road, or namely the "A4" used to run through here, but I believe according to the wiki, it was blocked up namely due to noise problems, but even worse, a traffic island where the statue is.

As a kid my Dad would take us to Leyton Orient and park in a nearby back street for free. We would walk to the game and back again and use Dads knowledge of the back roads to get home quickly. In his tiny Mini in Saturday rush hour
During the recent Tube strikes I have to drive partway to work and leave my car at Stratford station. On the way back I have tried to recreate the old way home. Not a hope.
It seems that every road has been humped, half the junctions blocked off and it's all permit parking only now
Chobham Road is blocked off like armour https://goo.gl/maps/a7Pzq461JK71MeC8A
No way past the old school https://goo.gl/maps/ptR8R3vaDqgyGSUr6
When was this pedestrianised?! https://goo.gl/maps/sBPaGjFe138Reyv16
Getting under the railway here? Nope https://goo.gl/maps/P83hdxXaaWEUf7Uz9
No right turn here up to Whipps Cross? Since when?! https://goo.gl/maps/fWdt7rxoRw2FTzez7
OK, satnav shows I can take the next right along. Oh FFS. https://goo.gl/maps/xUpx1CPm2EdXtE656
Turn around and try the next one along, Copeland Road. Aarrgh!!!! https://goo.gl/maps/kZ63JwQU6cHbsVbWA
Oh but hang on. I can do a left turn up Hoe Street to Whipps Cross from this side of Bakers Arms But when did the old pub shut?

This was the A708's north fork at Selkirk, severed when the town's flood prevention scheme was built.

The Fosse Way:
Sabre Maps
Formerly the A37, the modern alignment of which rejoins at this point. The Fosse Way seems to remain a footpath, but intersects with the A303, while the A37 now meets it at Podimore Roundabout.Sabre Maps

Blocked off by rails.
1 - Plumtreehall Brae in Galashiels, severed by the Borders Railway. The footbridge seen here links the two sections.

2 - The old A69 at Greenhead, with the stop line for the former level crossing still extant.

Or if you want a really big blockage how about a car factory on the Etwall - Willington road?the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 13:05 Or if you want something more substantial than bollards how about a wall on Park Road or a house?

Re: Roads that got blocked off
All of these have been diverted by runway extensions. A9 was truncated and never reached its original starting point again.

Re: Roads that got blocked off
Well I suppose its a matter of semantics - it depends on what iteration of each road you're referring to. The old A9 is very definitely still blocked by Edinburgh Airport.Chris Bertram wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 09:14All of these have been diverted by runway extensions. Prestwick airport blocked a road didn’t it?
[/quote]
One of the runways at Prestwick crossed a road, which was controlled by traffic lights until a new road was built nearby. No replacement was provided for the bit of the A9 that's now buried under Edinburgh Airport's main runway.
