Mini Roundabouts on 50k

Post by jervi »

So on 1:50k & 1:25k OS maps, only actual roundabouts are shown as roundabouts. Those which are mini-roundabouts are indistinguishable from regular t junctions, or traffic light controlled junctions.
However the mini-roundabout between the A23 & Perimeter Road South at Gatwick Airport is shown as a full roundabout on the 1:50k, and is the only mini roundabout I can see mapped in this fashion. The 1:25k map however, doesn't show it as a roundabout, maybe because 1:25k is a more literal map, rather that 1:50k which skews the land to make it easier to read.
Any other cases of mini-roundabouts being miss mapped?

Is it just a paint/thermoplastic roundabout or does it have a physical kerb edge?

Just a mini roundabout. Although it is quite large as signs direct over weight vehicles to do a U-turn here - so artics gotta be able to do a 360.

Just in passing, I have always called these a "Paintabout". Does anyone else ? :)

We call them a thermoplastic splat when done badly, depends on the skill of the liner.

Some maps show a dot in the middle of the junction to represent a mini roundabout. I think OSM does this. Maps I draw myself, whether fantasy or real, don't show them. I only show roundabouts if there's a physical kerb.
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?
Big and complex.
