New Red route.. why.?

New Red route.. why.?

Have just noticed that the A5209 from jct 27 on M6 to Burscough has brand new red route signs on.. was it a red route before and if not why the change..
5000 miles a month and counting.. :D

Red Routes are seen as a way to keep traffic moving - you can't stop on them unless in a designated parking place so there aren't blockages caused by dumped vehicles.

Looking at Google Maps GSV there are a lot of houses on the road so I wouldnt mind betting delivery vehicles stopping on the road is a real issue.
