What's up with all the "Traffic enforcement cameras" and no pedestrians signs in South Wales?
I am currently in South Wales and have noticed that both of these signs seem very common on major roads across South Wales, when I hardly ever see signs prohibiting pedestrians in England and camera signs almost always refer to speed cameras or bus lane cameras, although I have seen a couple of "traffic enforcement" ones like these Welsh ones in Bath.
Do any local factors influence the increased/decreased presence of certain road signs in different regions of the UK, for instance different council and police initiatives in different areas?

I think the no pedestrian signs are mostly just applying common sense, such as this one in Merthyr Tydfil on the link road to the D2 A465. It would be rather foolish to try and walk along here without putting yourself and other people in danger.

It's just not something you see much in England.

You only see it really in the former Glamorgan area. The county council had a policy that new link roads would prohibit pedestrians - ostensibly because it would hinder road safety to allow pedestrians to use such routes. A notable one is the dual carriageway that runs into the centre of Porthcawl: https://goo.gl/maps/TrFfLVAjDNPeyijW9

I can give you a two-for-one deal on no pedestrian signs in Central Croydon. On the Croydon flyover here and near Lebanon Road Tram stop here both for fairly clear reasons.

The meaning of the sign is obvious from that angle but I think I'd be quite confused if I strolled up to it intending to climb the stairs!

Ah, something makes more sense to me now. The A4055 Cogan Viaduct has always been no pedestrians, leaving the only links for non-motorised traffic down on Penarth Road, quite some way north, or the Barrage, equally far south. Only recently has a pedestrian link been built, down the steep hill towards the marina. What a ridiculous policy.Bryn666 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 10:02You only see it really in the former Glamorgan area. Some of the places with 'traffic enforcement camera' signs are very suspect. The signs have been present for many years with no evidence of enforcement, especially in places where there are yellow boxes. Perhaps an empty threat intended to spook drivers? It certainly worked on me.

They're not common but not unusual either eg here's one. Most roads prohibiting pedestrians are so obviously unsafe putting up lots of prohibition signs and enacting the TROs wouldn't be a sensible council priority.
More interestingly pedestrians aren't allowed to go down here (on either carriageway) but are allowed to go up (on the uphill carriageway only). And it's not just a missing prohibition sign at the bottom because there's these warnings at regular intervals.

I'd file that first cycle restriction under "ignore", though.the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 19:20 They're not common but not unusual either eg here's one. When I cycled LEJOG, I came through Sheffield, and headed for Barnsley. My route was A625-B6069-A57-A61-Fox Hill Road.
So I could very easily have approached that roundabout, looking for the A61, had things been ever so slightly different. Hypothetically I get to Castlegate, get into the leftmost A61N lane. And, on exiting the roundabout, I then see that. I either have to dash across two lanes to the right, stop dead, or break the restriction.
I'm breaking the restriction. No advance warning, nothing.
