This past Tuesday, a hi-rail excavator being used by CSX along the CSX Nashville Subdivision struck and damaged several support-beams under the eastbound bridge on I-840 over the line. The eastbound lanes of I-840 were closed entirely for a little while after the accident, but, once TDOT determined that one side of the bridge was still stable, that lane was reopened. However, they are predicting that the other eastbound lane on I-840 here will remain closed for three months while the damaged portion of the bridge is repaired, with potentially even short-term full closures of the bridge happening while repair works are being done. Several photos shared by the Williamson County Sheriff's Office and TDOT show the excavator in question standing on the tracks underneath the damaged support beams.
