For the original B1101, now part of the A1101, see B1101 (Bury St Edmunds - Outwell).
The B1101 is a medium-length B-road across the Fens. Although the road is in a similar position to the original B1101 this route was originally unclassified (except for the southern end which was the A141) and only got its number around 1930.
The road starts at Mill Hill roundabout on the A141 March bypass and heads north into town along that road's original route. The B1099 comes in from the right at traffic lights then the B1101 is the dominant number in a multiplex along the High Street and across the River Nene. The road becomes dual-carriageway on the far side of the river (presumably the road was wide to accommodate a market although the central reservation is now used for car parking) and this continues to traffic lights. The B1099 turns left taking the pre-bypass A141 with it and the B1101 TOTSOs right at what was its original southern end.
We head east for one block then turn northwards once more. The road leaves town via a level crossing on the Peterborough to Ely railway line just east of the station. We enter open country and cross a freight-only railway line at a level crossing then reach Chainbridge where we cross the Twenty Foot River. On the far side we TOTSO right to follow the river and go over another level crossing, after which the road bears left and runs alongside the railway line for over a mile to reach Coldham.
A series of 90-degree bends take the road off to the northeast and the village of Friday Bridge. This merges almost seamlessly into Elm, the next village, and we run along the main road to end on the far side of the village at a T-junction on the A1101.
