City of Wolverhampton Council manage a total of 133 km of Class I, II and III roads, covering the urban core of the city of Wolverhampton, though not the outskirts of the built-up area, or the entire historic boundaries of the city.

About 100 yards of A449 at the northern edge of the council area is the only Trunk road managed by National Highways within the boundaries of the city council area, although the boundary itself runs along the southern highway boundary of both the roundabout at M54 junction 2 and of the A4510.

Primary Destinations

The following Primary Destinations are within the boundaries of the council area:

Trunk Roads

As stated above, the only Trunk road within the city council boundaries is the aforementioned short section of A449 in the extreme northern edge of the local authority area. This is a relic of a boundary change on 1 April 1994[1], as the responsibility change is at the northern local authority boundary as it is shown on Revision B2 of OS Landranger sheet 139, published in 1994.

Prior to that boundary change, there were no Trunk Roads within the authority's area.

Classified Unnumbered Roads

Main Article: Wolverhampton Council (Class III roads)

For their Class III road network, City of Wolverhampton Council use "U" prefixes rather than "C". The "U", rather than the often believed "unclassified", in this case stands for "Urban Classified".
