The A1172 is a short link road in the Northumberland New Town of Cramlington. Originally part of the B1326 it gained its current number with the growth of the New Town.
The road starts at a roundabout on the A1068 Cramlington western bypass and heads east as a dual carriageway. The carriageways start to split almost immediately to reach a roundabout (which serves an industrial estate and residential area), suggesting that this was planned as a GSJ.
On the far side of the roundabout the two carriageways join each other and skirt a residential area, which is accessed via traffic lights. The road then narrows to cross a bridge over the East Coast Main Line which dates back to B1326 days. The road then ends at a roundabout on the A1171 and the remainder of the B1326 continues ahead into the old village.
