The A1179 is a link road in Peterborough.
Route
The road starts at a roundabout in the city centre. It heads west and immediately crosses the ECML. The road, the original line of the A47 to the west of the city, was built as S3 but has now been reduced to S2.
The road heads west along the built-up Thorpe Road before reaching a roundabout. The old A47 turns off to the right here and we continue ahead along the D2 Longthorpe Parkway, with an NSL limit. The road heads through open country, with a few bends, before ending on the A1260 western bypass at a roundabout GSJ, which is Peterborough's J33.
History
Longthorpe Parkway from Thorpe Interchange on Nene Parkway to Thorpe Road was shown as opened on the April 1975 OS Quarter inch map. It was under construction on the April 1974 edition. It may have initially been unclassified.
