A2270 is the present designation of a four-mile stretch of the former route of the A22 leading into Eastbourne from the north – all traffic heading for central Eastbourne (including that from the eastbound A27) being today directed to follow a newer dual-carriageway route east from the Cophall Roundabout (on the north side of Polegate) and then south along a rerouted A22.
The A2270 begins in Polegate at the point where the A27 Lewes Road from the west TOTSOs north upon meeting Eastbourne Road, which will be our own route. We head south-by-south-east through the pretty suburb of Willingdon, the centre of which was already bypassed back in the day when our route was still the A22. After negotiating a slightly over-sized roundabout junction with the A2021 west of Hampden Park, we continue along Willingdon Road, which eventually becomes Upperton Road.
Our route ends in Eastbourne Old Town, at the point where the westbound A259 TOTSOs left. This was also the end of the A22 before our route was renumbered A2270.
