Magazine Road was a short link road in Ashford town centre, cutting off the corner between the A20 and A28 (and was indeed a shorter route for through traffic on the A28 than staying on that road through the town centre.
On classification in 1922 the road was given the B2072 number - but its importance soon became obvious and it was upgraded to Class I status in 1924, becoming the A292.
Owing to the road's short length its numbering since is unclear. It became a spur (or perhaps the mainline) of the A28 but it is now unclassified.
