London Road Junction is junction 1 of the A3(M).
It marks the point where the new A3(M), built in 1979, met the route of the existing A3 - although strictly speaking the next few miles were realigned when the motorway opened.
The junction has only north-facing sliproads. Partly this allows the motorway to start, but also it allowed London Road (the route of the A3 until 1979) to have its northern end closed off.
