The A3027 once provided an alternative to the A38 through Taunton town centre.
The road started on the A38 Wellington Road. That road continued east along Park Street whilst the A3027 moved onto Upper High Street. It continued onto Billetfield before meeting the B3170 and heading north along Silver Street to reach the A38 again on East Street.
The route of the A3027 did a good job in taking through traffic out of the centre of Taunton and so the A38 has been rerouted along its entire length.
