|Route outline (key)|
Formerly part of the A355 Blandford to Sherborne road, the A3030 is a fairly minor non-primary route in the north of Dorset. It is one of the least improved A roads in the county.
Lydlinch - Sherborne
The A3030 starts at a T-junction with the A357 west of Lydlinch. The road here is often so quiet that deer frequent it in the early mornings. After a mile or so, the B3143 for Dorchester leaves to our left – this road is quite important as it's signed from Sturminster Newton. We twist our way through Bishop's Caundle, Caundle Marsh, Alweston and North Wootton in quick succession, each with a 30 mph limit connected by 40 mph areas in between. The road ends abruptly at a stop sign after a sharp bend on the A352 around a mile and a half short of Sherborne.
Interestingly, this is therefore one of the few numbers that was recycled in 1935, most of the others lay dormant for a few years.
