The A4156 is a very short link, forming the western side of a box around Aylesbury town centre.
The road starts at a roundabout junction with the A41 and A418 to the west of town and heads northeast along Oxford Road. Until recently this road was D2 but it was rebuilt recently to remove the central reservation and provide a southbound bus lane; the road is now S4. The road ends at a triple roundabout, meeting the A413 at the last of the three.
Some maps claim the A4156 to be an extension of the A418 but Buckinghamshire County Council give the road its correct number.
