The A4157 follows a short semi-circular route around the north side of Aylesbury, bypassing the centre and connecting the A41 to itself.
The road starts at a roundabout on the western side of town where the A41 leaves its original route to pass to the south of the town centre. The A4157 heads north along the partially residential Weedon Road. By the time it crosses the A413 at traffic lights it's heading east. It continues along Elmhurst Road to cross the A418 at a roundabout and continue along the suburban Douglas Road. Presently the road bends to the right and appears to enter open country. It skirts an industrial estate and crosses the Grand Union Canal before the houses come back. Now heading due south, the road ends shortly afterwards at a mini-roundabout on the A41.
