The A45 is a short route in the centre of Douglas, which follows the full length of the gently curving Circular Road. Beginning on Sydney Mount, the A42, at the back of Tynwald, Seat of the Isle of Man Government, the route heads south along Circular Road with brightly coloured old buildings on the left facing more modern office blocks. The B74, Upper Church Street, crosses at a signalised crossroads, and then the A45 continues past more modern office blocks (some with the remnants of the old terraces housing still visible) to meet the B82 at another signalised crossroads. Older housing predominates now for the final section of the route which runs west to meet the A1 at a sharp fork junction, which is also signalised. When heading south on the A1, it is relatively easy to get into the wrong lane and take the A45 by mistake
