The A47 is the highest numbered A road on the Isle of Man, and appears to be quite a recent addition. While all of the routes up to the A46 are shown on the 1970 OS One Inch Sheet, but the A47 still isn't marked as an A road by the OS. The route follows Tromode Road to the north of Douglas, and it is difficult to understand why it was classified at all. Beginning on the A2 at a signalised crossroads opposite the B76, it heads north, quickly narrowing, to the point that it is not wide enough for a centre-line. Parked cars don't help, but it is a pleasant run through the trees, past a few houses, government offices and playing fields. Towards the northern end there is an S1 traffic calming feature and then the route ends on the A21, Johnny Watterson Lane at Cronkbourne.
