|Route outline (key)|
The A5228 is a short link through northern Luton, linking the two arms of the A505 via the A6. The section west of the A6 is not marked on the OS map (although Luton Borough Council still refers to it in official documents) and the road number only appears on a few signs, so finding the exact route of the road is not easy.
The road starts at traffic lights on the A505 Dunstable Road and heads north along Waller Avenue over the railway line, then turns right into Leagrave Road at traffic lights. The B579 turns left, and Blundell Road and Birdsfoot Lane ahead may be a spur of the A5228. We head into town for a short distance before another set of lights takes us left into Woodland Avenue, with the B579 continuing ahead. We continue east via Montrose Avenue and a TOTSO just before a roundabout to a further roundabout where we cross the A6.
Now with our route more official, we continue along Stockingstone Road, which winds us round to another suburban roundabout, where the A5228 turns north once more up Hitchin Road to end on the A505 roundabout at Vauxhall Way.
