Carreg Bran Interchange is junction 8A of the A55. It opened with the Britannia Bridge road deck in 1980 as the northern limit of the approach road (then A5) to the bridge. It was then just a pair of splayed carriageways from the south meeting Holyhead Road with no junction bridge. In 1983 the bridge was built when the road was extended to form the Llanfairpwll bypass. It became A55 in about 2000 with the extension of that road to Holyhead.
