For the present use in Preston city centre, see A6063.
The originally allocated A6063 ran from the A677 north along Branch Road to Whalley Road (which was at that time the A59) in Mellor Brook between Blackburn and Preston.
After World War II the route of the A59 was altered for some reason, so it now zigzagged south from Mellor Brook along Branch Road and then west along what was the A677 past Samlesbury Hall. As this took over the entire route of the A6063, that number was given to the bypassed section of A59 through Myerscough Smithy. Samlesbury Aerodrome had been built on the original route of the A59 and so the new A6063 was lengthened to go round the edge.
Then in the 1960s the A59 and A677 were given their original routes back. However, rather than the A6063 being given its original route, it was made redundant instead. Therefore the original A6063 is now unclassified and its 1940s route is now the A59 (as it was in 1922).
A Pre Worboys sign in Mellor Brook gives away the original road number of the A6063.
