Airport Roundabout is the end of the spur of the M1 to Dublin Airport.
During the airport's expansion plans in the 1960s, this junction was shown variously as a roundabout interchange with a flyover, and a more complex free-flow interchange. The motorway wasn't built for another 20 years, so under the updated airport improvement, the junction was built as a north-facing exit only, despite some businesses having already adapted to this being the new airport entrance.
Following a lengthy dispute over whether the flyover should come out of the road network's budget or the airport's, the junction was eventually built as a flat roundabout.
