For other Airport junctions, see Airport Roundabout.
For Mid Coul Junction, the GSJ planned to supercede the existing roundabout, see Mid Coul Junction.
Airport Roundabout on the A96 is a junction with the C1017 which is the main access to Inverness Airport.
The roundabout was constructed in 2006 as part of the new Inverness Airport Way which was an upgrade to the C1017 between the A96 and the airport. The original route of this road was a single track road which followed the West of the airport boundary, as well as being below standard for the needs of the route it eventually had to be closed due to installation of new instrument landing systems which the close proximity of road traffic could interfere with. The new road was routed further away from the runway to avoid this problem. The C1017 also leads South of the A96 to the village of Croy.
The roundabout features bilingual signs only on Inverness Aiport Way and not on the A96.
Future Plans
The whole junction is due to be superceded by the new Mid Coul Junction, to be built a little to the north, as part of the plans to dual the A96 between Inverness and Nairn.
