The Bridge across the River Avon at the Cumberland Basin in Bristol is a 3 span concrete structure, which is rather dull compared to the Plimsoll Bridge across the Floating Harbour immediately to the north. However, with no requirement to allow large ships further upstream, economy won the day when it came to the design.
The two central piers sit in the tidal river, carrying shallow arched concrete structures with a full D2 dual carriageway for the A3029 on the top. The bridge connects the A370 and Ashton Gate junction with the A4 and Cumberland Basin junction, and comprises part of the first multi-level interchange to be built in Bristol.
