The B1005 ran mostly in Essex to the south of the Hertfordshire town of Bishop's Stortford.
It started on the A11 in the centre of Bishop's Stortford and headed out of town along Hallingbury Road. About half way along its route it went through the village of Little Hallingbury and then ended on the then-A414 at the western end of Hatfield Heath.
In the 1960s the road was upgraded to become the A1060, which was itself lengthened later by taking over the ex-A414 east of Hatfield Heath.
